News and Events

Assistance Needed with Arrival and Dismissal

Arrival: 

  • Doors open for students at 9:10. 
  • Please do not drop off your students before 9:10. 
  • Students should wait in their cars until 9:10.
  • Students are late after 9:25 and a parent needs to sign them in at the front office.

Dismissal:

  • Walkers and car riders are dismissed at 3:50.
  • Bus riders are dismissed at 3:55.
  • Walkers and car riders need to be picked up by 4:00.
  • Early dismissals should take place prior to 3:30 and should only take place for doctor appointments.

Young Author's Contest

The Howard County Young Authors’ Contest has started at Deep Run ES.  We will hold a breakfast celebration for all writers this year!  Please encourage your student to enter.  Click here to learn how to enter.

Cognitives Abilities Test (CogAT) for Grades 3 and 5

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) measures student academic abilities and is useful for educators to make course and academic program placements for students. This test is given to all third and fifth graders as one measure for possible GT placements

CogAT Testing

  • Testing window is 12/4- 12/15
  • Tuesday 12/5, Wednesday 12/6 & Friday 12/8
  • Grade 3 @ 9:30-10:20/10:35
  • Grade 5 @ 10:45-11:35/11:50
  • Make ups will take place 12/11-12/15

OC Brew Restaurant Month in December

DRES PTA Restaurant Month at OC Brewing Company.
Our FOCUS day will be on Tuesday, December 5th from Open – Close
Location: 6630 Marie Curie Drive (across from Costco’s Gas Station)
However, if you can’t make it that day, it's okay because they are hosting our fundraiser for the ENTIRE month of December!!!!  Click here for the flyer in English and Spanish. 

From the Health Room

Fevers make you feel Hot, Hot, Hot!
Here in the health room we are seeing an increase in fevers. It is not uncommon for this time of year but we would like to send you a few reminders.

  • If your child has a temperature greater than 100.0F they need to stay home
  • If your child has a fever in the night and you give them medication, they must stay home from school the next day.
  • Your child must remain home until they are fever free without fever reducing medications (ie: Tylenol or Motrin) for 24 hours.
  • Once your child returns to school, please provide a note so their absences can be excused.
