February Parent Teacher Conferences February 9th and 10th

Elementary parent teacher conferences will be held on the afernoons of February 9th and 10th when schools will close 3 hours early.  Deep Run will dismiss students at 12:55.  In-person conferences will be available on February 9th from 1:10-4:10.  Most teachers are offering conferences in the evening on February 9th.  Evening conferences will be virtual.  Teachers not offering evening conferences on February 9th will offer virtual conferences after dismissal on February 10th. February conferences will focus on math. Online sign-up begins Friday, January 27th.

Registration Dates for the 2023-2024 School Year

  • February 1-Registration for Grades 2-12 opens online.
  • March 6-Kindergarten and 1st Grade registration officially begins the week of March 6
    • Please note: families of kindergarten and new 1st grade students will be able to begin the enrollment process online on February 1. However, official registration does not begin until March 6.
  • March 13-PreK registration officially begins the week of March 13. 

Learning Together Program at Deep Run Elementary

The Deep Run ES Regional Early Childhood Center (RECC) prekindergarten programs are making preparations for classes for the upcoming 2023-24 school year.  These classes include children with and without disabilities.  The program’s focus is helping all children develop communication, literacy, math, problem solving, motor, and social skills. Parents of children who will be 3 by September 1st, applications will be available and accepted in mid February. 

In alignment with Maryland’s Blueprint for the Future, new applications for students turning 4 by September 1 will not be available or accepted.  The Howard County Public School System continues to offer a prekindergarten program for income eligible children who will be four years old by September 1. HCPSS is committed to providing instruction based on the statewide Early Learning Standards which are in alignment with Kindergarten Readiness. 4th Grade Family Night--February 2

Join 4th grade teachers on February 2nd from 6-7 to learn and practice  activities to support your child’s learning at home. Each child will receive reading and math materials to take home. This evening is designed for fourth grade students and parent/guardian to play together.  Please note there will not be childcare provided for siblings.

Únase a los maestros de cuarto grado para aprender y practicar actividades para apoyar el aprendizaje de su hijo en casa. Cada niño recibirá materiales de lectura y matemáticas para llevar a casa. Esta noche está diseñada para que los estudiantes de cuarto grado y los padres/tutores jueguen juntos.     Students in grades 1-5 will participate in the Winter administration of Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing.  in English and Spanish.

    HCPSS Summer Programs

    Summer may be several months away, but now is the time to start planning! 

    HCPSS/The Council of Elders of Howard County (TCOE) Community Academy:  Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships

    The Council of Elders of the Black Community of Howard County (TCOE), in collaboration with the Howard County Public School System, will host a TCOE Community Academy on Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:30 am. The event will be virtual. The session will provide information regarding healthy and unhealthy relationships. Representatives from HCPSS, as well as Howard County community organizations, will provide resources and education on managing peer conflict, identifying abuse in teen relationships, and identifying skills and strategies to intervene if needed.
