Report Cards Go Home on Monday, November 11th
Report cards go home on Monday, November 11th. Beginning this quarter, you will notice a minor modification to your child’s report card.
The PreK-5 Learning Behaviors section of the report card has been modified to align with changes recently made to HCPSS Policy 8010: Grading and Reporting. The new behaviors complement the curriculum content taught in the elementary grades and are a natural part of learning about oneself while interacting with others.
Learning behaviors now included on the 2019-2020 report card help support parents and teachers in identifying areas of focus. The learning behaviors are:
• Demonstrates interpersonal skills
• Demonstrates responsibility
• Demonstrates perseverance
• Demonstrates collaboration
• Demonstrates initiative
On the HCPSS website, you will find a list of the specific behaviors, actions and expectations that align with each learning behavior. Teachers will report student performance on each learning behavior based on developmental and age-appropriate expectations. You will also find example report cards, frequently asked questions and information in multiple languages.

Please note that if you are unable to attend conferences during the conference days/evenings, please contact your child’s teacher directly to arrange a mutually convenient time.
Tips for Scheduling Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be scheduled in 20-minute increments.
Conferences will need to begin and end on time.
Please allow yourself travel time between conferences within the building.
Please do not schedule back-to-back conferences with different teachers if at all possible.
Related Arts teachers have a limited number of conference times available in comparison to the number of students they teach. You are not required to schedule a related arts conference, however we encourage you to schedule a conference if you have a concern you would like to discuss with the teacher. If you would like to schedule a conference with a related arts teacher, please email the teacher to schedule with them directly. Please visit our DRES staff page at https://dres.hcpss.org/school-staff for contact information.
If you do not have access to email, please call the front office.

School Psychology Awareness Week- November 11th-15th
Do you know the school psychologist at your child’s school? Every HCPSS school has at least one school psychologist on staff. At Deep Run Elementary, Amy Manner is our full-time school psychologist and Dan Carr is with us one day a week. While Mrs. Manner has been on maternity leave, Theresa Serkes, Mary Nalepa, and Jennifer Lage have been subbing for her. Mrs. Manner will return after winter break.
School psychologists work with students, staff, and families to promote the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic success of all students and to ensure a safe and nurturing school environment. School psychologists provide services based on the individual needs of their schools. The following HCPSS link describes the many supports offered by school psychologists: https://www.hcpss.org/schools/psychological-services/
