PTA Winter Festival Tonight--December 2nd from 6:00-7:30
Come get in the holiday spirit! The cafeteria and gym will be turned into a winter wonderland! There will be winter themed crafts, activities, and local vendors. You may find that perfect holiday gift! There will also be the popular Holiday Market for KIDS ONLY. Kids will be able to purchase $2-$5 gifts for friends and family, so don’t forget to bring a little spending cash!
Recess During Cold Weather
We have entered the colder season of the school year. Even though the
temperatures get colder, our students still go outside for recess. Recess is a very
important time for students to take a break from their academic classes to get fresh
air, exercise, and socialize with their peers. Recess is so important that the Howard
County Public School System has a policy requiring elementary schools to provide
students with 30 minutes of recess daily. Outdoor recess will occur during the cold
months as long as the “feels like” temperature is at least 20 degrees and it is not
raining/snowing.
Please be sure your children are prepared for outdoor recess. They should have
coats/jackets, mittens/gloves, and hats. Please put your child’s name on these items. Doctors’ notes are required for students to miss recess. The note should list the
dates the student cannot attend recess. If a doctor requires a student to stay in from
recess when the rest of the students go out, the student will go to the front office.
Let us know if your child needs a coat--we have coats for children in need.
Title I Kindergarten Family Night--December 12
Kindergarteners and their families are invited to join teachers to learn and practice activities to support your child’s learning at home. Each child will receive materials to take home.
When: Monday, December 12, 2022, 6:00-7:00 pm
Where: DRES Kindergarten Classrooms

Picture Make-up Day will be December 13
If your child missed the fall picture day or would like to retake their fall portraits, they can have their picture taken on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. If you ordered fall portraits and would like retakes, please send the picture envelope with the pictures you ordered back to school before December 13th. Students will take the picture envelope with them when they retake their pictures. If you have any questions, please contact the front office.
Young Author's Contest
It is the perfect time to have your child work on his/her Young Author’s Entry. Thanksgiving Break should provide extra creative time to write a short story or poem. This is for all first through 5th grade students. The students are allowed to enter both a short story and a poem if they are feeling inspired! A packet went home a few weeks ago in the Wednesday folders. The information is also attached. All entries are due December 9, 2022. If you have any questions, please email Audrey_owens@hcpss.org.
