We were very pleased with our first full week of distance learning. Students have been doing a great job adjusting to this new model of learning! We enjoyed “seeing” students in their virtual check-ins and hearing about their success with Lexia and DreamBox. The students were also excited to share some of the other activities they completed throughout the week.
We know this distance learning model has required a lot of support from parents. We appreciate all the assistance you have provided to your child. We are hopeful that each week students will become more and more independent in logging on to Canvas and working through the daily activities. Please be sure to read Canvas announcements and emails from your child’s teacher so you don’t miss out on important information.
We are especially proud of our Deep Run staff! Distance learning has been a huge shift for our teachers and they really miss seeing your children in our school building. They have spent hours and hours training for this new model and they have accomplished a lot in the past few weeks. It is extremely satisfying for them to see their students in the virtual check-ins and observe the progress being made in Lexia and DreamBox. Next week during Staff Appreciation Week is the perfect time to recognize the teaching staff for their tremendous amount of work. You couldn’t ask for a more dedicated group of teachers. We are very proud of their accomplishments!

Attendance During Virtual Learning
Elementary school students are expected to participate in at least three different activities every week: virtual check-ins on Google Meet, work in Dreambox, and work in LexiaCore5. Students should also engage in activities posted in Canvas. Each of the following activities will earn students 1 point:
• Participates in Google Meet check-in session with teacher
• Engages in Dreambox
• Engages in LexiaCore5
Every student who earns at least 1 point during the week by participating in these activities will be marked “Present” for the entire week. A student who does not participate in any activities during the week earns no points and will be marked “Absent” for the week. While not used to track attendance, student participation in Canvas will be part of quarter 4 grading.
4th Quarter Grading
During quarter 4, there will be two potential grades - pass (P) or incomplete (I). If a student participates in 50% or more of the assignments in Dreambox and Lexia, they will receive a pass in mathematics and language arts. Additional information is provided online.

Staff Appreciation Week
Dear Deep Run Families,
Although our students and teachers can’t be together at school, we can still show our amazing teachers and staff how much we appreciate them!
The week of May 4th to May 8th is “Virtual” teacher appreciation week!! Here are a few suggestions on how you and your child can show our hardworking teachers your appreciation.
Your child can use the Inbox on Canvas to communicate with their teacher.
• Draw a picture or take a picture of a flower and send it to your teacher.
• Send a short video from your child expressing their thanks.
• Send a thank-you note.
• Make a sign expressing your thanks to hold up during a check-in.
• Send a letter or drawing with “I Miss You!”
• Send an eGift Card
• Complete this form for a giant Staff Wordle
Don’t forget to send a photo or a short video of your child(ren) holding up a sign to thank DRES staff members. Please try to send in 2 or more pictures or videos, one for their classroom teacher, and some for another staff member. (For example, related arts teachers, guidance counselors, paraeducators, etc.) We would like as many staff members as possible to be acknowledged. The photos and videos will be put together in a slide show to share with the staff on May 8th. Please send photos or videos as an attachment to dresptainfo@gmail.com before 5/5/20 to allow us time to put the slideshow together. PLEASE include Student Name/Grade and TEACHER Name(s) in email.
Please help make teacher appreciation week one to remember!! Thank you and take care!
